Ovulation induction
Ovulation induction is indicated for women who do not ovulate regularly and women who do not ovulate at all. Also it is a routine part of fertility treatment using assisted reproduction techniques, such as IUI (intrauterine insemination) and IVF (in vitro fertilization).
There are different protocols, medication and dosage of medications that can be used for ovulation induction, which has to be tailored to each individual woman. It is very important to monitor ovulation induction with ultrasound scan, and sometimes blood test, to check on the number and size of follicles and adjust the dose of the medications accordingly. The main risk of ovulation induction is ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, which is rare to happen, when a woman responses too much to the ovulation induction protocol. However, this risk can be minimized through monitoring the treatment cycle with ultrasound scans and sometimes blood tests.
